2009-2014 Major Fundraising Campaign:
National Bank Donates Half a Million Dollars to the UQTR Foundation

La Fondation de l’Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) [The UQTR Foundation] held a press conference today at the University to announce National Bank’s exceptional donation of $500,000 to its 2009-2014 Major Fundraising Campaign.
National Bank’s significant contribution will fund the creation of the National Bank Research Chair in SME Innovation and Risk Management, in accordance with UQTR’s rules and regulations. The aim of this chair is to heighten understanding of the innovation-inducing processes and mechanisms in SMEs. It will also investigate factors of success and failure, which, in addition to innovation projects, are likely to affect the survival of SMEs.

Mr André Paradis, Interim Rector of UQTR expressed his satisfaction with National Bank’s exceptional support to the campaign. "Such a generous contribution attests to your commitment to a knowledge-based society. Your tangible support to our University for developing and implementing innovative projects is a vital source of leverage for our professors to conduct dynamic research. Furthermore, the funding of this new chair will enable the Institut de recherche sur les PME [SME Research Institute] and its members to participate in the development of Quebec’s small to medium sized businesses, thereby helping to make our economy more efficient and competitive, both regionally and internationally. For our students, it will foster a stimulating research environment conducive to optimal development and the acquisition of new knowledge.
Mr Paradis took the opportunity to thank Mrs Patricia Curadeau-Grou for her valuable collaboration and her commitment as co-chair of the Fundraising Committee of the UQTR Foundation’s 2009-2014 Major Fundraising Campaign. "Your pivotal role enhances the development of new expertise for the betterment of the society of tomorrow. We are sincerely grateful," he declared.
Mr Jacques Roy, Senior Vice-President of the UQTR Foundation, offered these words: "We are particularly grateful to the National Bank whose substantial financial contribution will promote student success and support our University’s development efforts. UQTR is an emblematic institution in our region, imparting knowledge, stimulating economic activity and social values and enriching culture and creation."
Launched under the motto Investing in Knowledge, the aim of UQTR Foundation’s 2009-2014 fundraising campaign is to support the University’s development in key sectors and boost student aid. The first phase of the campaign, carried out within the University community itself, secured pledges of almost $2.8 million, demonstrating a strong commitment by the employees and students to their University. The second phase is currently underway and seeks to engage businesses, partners and friends of UQTR. This campaign, whose ultimate objective is set at $20 million, has garnered $17 million in donations to date.
The UQTR Foundation’s 2009-2014 Major Fundraising Campaign, the third of its kind in the organization’s history, seeks to raise the funds necessary to carry out over twenty priority projects. Of the $20 million campaign goal, $5 million is earmarked for scholarships and grants for students at all levels.
Over $12 million will be allocated to research and training projects in various fields: child and family development, ecocomposite materials, nanomaterials, SMEs, academic success, intellectual deficiency, biomass, Quebec historical documents, geographical and environmental history of Quebec, hydrogen and aquatic ecology.
$1.2 million of the donations raised during the campaign will go towards acquiring and updating library equipment and resources, as well as implementing academic technology projects. Finally, $1.5 million will be used to construct and outfit university pavilions (School of Engineering and Student Life Pavilion).
A donation to the UQTR Foundation’s Major Fundraising Campaign represents a solid commitment to present and future generations of students and researchers. The funds raised will enable the University to maintain its unique position and consolidate its regional presence, while enhancing its profile nationally and internationally.
The implementation of the fundraising campaign’s priority projects is an integral part of UQTR’s strategic development plan. Responding to the needs of the community, the projects will strengthen the collaboration between the different actors in the University region.
The UQTR Foundation
Established in 1986, the UQTR Foundation is dedicated to supporting students and the development of UQTR. To date, it has contributed over $18 million to this cause. Thanks to both major and annual fundraising campaigns, the Foundation has been able to meet the needs of both students and the University (equipment, research, library) as well as establish a large general endowment fund. Its principal donors are businesses and business people, foundations, associations and professional orders, graduates, employees, retirees, students, parents and friends of UQTR.
